After leaving the project for some time, I finally got around to touching up with some acrylic paints. This was especially important for the wooden bits, that were painted over with Vallejo Mahogany Brown.
The horrible colour of the base was covered with a layer of fine earth out of the garden, a technique that I picked up from Dampf's Modelling Page. It was then painted over with a thin layer of artist's acrylic Raw Sienna, and highlighted with some Vallejo Sand Yellow.
